High Torque Clock Movements and Long Clock Hands for Making Larger Clocks (11" Diameter and up)

COMMON QUESTIONS & TIPS FOR CHOOSING CLOCK MOTORS AND HANDS

• What is the difference between high torque and standard quartz clock movements?

  High Torque Clock Motors are more powerful - made specifically to handle the extra weight of longer clock hands up to 18" in length. This means you can make a clock with a clock face/dial that is 42" wide or even greater! • What are the different types of high torque (high power) movements - scroll down to shop based on type and thickness of your clock face?

  1) USA Made Step Style High Torque Movements These movements will make a very slight stepping sound & motion, but do not drive a second hand.  
  
  2) Continuous Sweep Clock Movements drive the longer hands and operate silently + will drive a second hand (see below in red or black, 10 inches long). 
  
  3) High Torque Pendulum Movements. With this option you can drive the longer hands as well as a pendulum up to 25" long.
  
  4) High Power Chiming Clock Movements

  Tips: AA Battery and C-Cell Options - The C-Cell Simply Lasts Longer.  Always use fresh Duracell or Energizer batteries.

• How do I choose the right size clock motor & hands?

  2) The size of hands is based on the length of the minute hand from the mounting hole to the end of the minute hand. (Figures 3 & 4 above) Most can be slightly trimmed if need be, and they are all USA made of aluminum.  Our customers also spray paint them.

  3) Our clock motors are sized by the thickness of the dial the movements can go through.  EG Q-64 below will go through up to 5/8" thick material.  If your material is too thick, consider removing some to in-set the clock.  Or if your clock face material is too thin, consider adding some material behind the face so the hands will sit closer to your clock face.

• What's included?

  Listed price for motors includes the mounting hardware for your clock. (Washers, Nuts, Bolts and Brass End Caps.)  Note: Built in hangers as found on standard clock movements are not recommended due to the weight of the clocks you will build. We recommend checking out our selection of Picture Hanging Hardware

  Prices for clock hands includes a minute and hour hand.  (Sweep 10" second hands sold separately, available for Continuous Sweep motors only)

Check out our blog post! Plus here is a DIY Large Wall Clock Summary: The clocks shown use either a High Torque Movement for up to 5/8" thick material (Q-64) or some upgraded to Continuous Sweep Movements (Q-67) - scroll below for the selection. The class offered a selection of clock hands ranging from 8 to 12 inches for these clocks that are 30" diameter (add to cart below).  The materials were cut wood and painted.  Numbers are painted on. Our thanks also to Sterling Davis (Find him on YouTube) who does unique woodworking and scroll saw art, mainly from reclaimed pallet wood.  This fantastic scroll saw clock features a high torque clock movement (Q-64) and 10" hands.  The clock was cut with our Pegas Skip Tooth Scroll Saw Blades.
